A brief History of the Hadlow Green Singers
In 1967 a ladies-only choir was set up by the Hadlow Green WI after a group of ladies wanted to enter the Bromborough Music Festival. Following the festival, the group stayed together and continued to enjoy success in local festivals over the coming years. A few years later, a mixed choir was formed and for a several years this ran alongside the ladies choir. Hadlow Green Singers was officially formed in 1982 when these two choirs combined. Over the next two decades the choir enjoyed much success at National (including Wirral Music Festival, Southport, Blackpool, Morecambe, Biddulph and Llandudno) and International festivals and competitions (Llangollen Eisteddfod, Sickenhausen, Germany and Valenciennes, France).
Our current conductor, Clive Nicholson, took over the baton in 2009 and has steadily worked to re-establish the professionalism and musicality of the choir. Whilst we have not attempted to participate in competitions and festivals, the standard has improved year on year.
As a community choir, all-comers are welcome without auditions, the only requirement being a love of music and an desire to sing with a group of like-minded people. The range of music is very varied, without a set repertoire. Traditionally, we have held 3 concerts per year coinciding roughly with the end of school terms. Each concert has its own distinctive flavour – the Spring concert has tended to contain more serious and challenging works and the summer concert is quite the opposite, with lots of light, fun pieces. The Christmas concert, of course contains lots of seasonal interest.
